Odix Pay Card — Odix Purple

Odix Purple

Odix Pay Card suits stablecoin holders in its 20 countries who spend at least $1,000 a month and want a physical Visa card with cashback. The 1% fee on every payment halves the 2% cashback on the $69.99 cards, and the higher rates need a $2,000 or $15,000 card.

Good

  • 2% cashback on the $69.99 White and Black cards, up to $200 a month
  • Free stablecoin deposits with no deposit limit
  • Virtual card works with Apple Pay
  • 1.2% FX fee on the White, Black and Rose Metal cards

Watch out

  • 1% transaction fee on every payment, 1.5% on Purple
  • 5% fee on ATM withdrawals with Purple and Rose Metal
  • Available in only 20 countries, with ID checks for everyone
  • 4% and 6% cashback need a $2,000 or $15,000 card

Odix Pay Card is a prepaid card that you top up with stablecoins in the Odix Pay app and spend wherever Visa or Mastercard is accepted. The virtual Purple card costs $19.99 and pays no cashback, the $69.99 White and Black cards pay 2% on up to $10,000 a month, and every payment carries a 1% transaction fee.

Odix Pay sells five tiers that differ by card material, cashback rate and limits, from the virtual Purple card to a $15,000 Gold card. You pay the card price once, there's no annual fee, and stablecoin deposits are free.

Odix Pay Card cashback

Odix Pay Card pays 2% cashback on the White and Black cards, 4% on Rose Metal and 6% on Gold, and nothing on the virtual Purple card.

Each rate has a monthly cap. White and Black stop at $200 of cashback a month, which is reached after $10,000 of spending. Rose Metal stops at $500, after $12,500, and Gold stops at $1,000, after about $16,667.

The 1% transaction fee comes off every payment, so the real return on White and Black is closer to 1%. Spending $1,000 a month earns $20 and costs $10 in transaction fees, which leaves $10. Paying in a foreign currency adds the 1.2% FX fee, and then the card costs more than it pays back.

Rose Metal is worth more only for very heavy spenders. At $5,000 a month it nets $150 after the transaction fee against $50 on White, so the extra $1,930 for the metal card takes about 19 months to earn back.

Odix Pay Card fees

Odix Pay Card charges a 1% transaction fee on every payment with the White, Black and Rose Metal cards and 1.5% with the virtual Purple card, plus an FX fee of 1.2% or 1.5% when you pay in another currency.

Topping up with stablecoins is free and has no limit, according to Odix Pay's help centre. Topping up from another bank card through Stripe or Apple Pay costs 8%, so fund the account with crypto whenever you can.

The fee page lists several smaller charges. Payments under $25 cost an extra $0.20, a payment declined for insufficient balance costs $0.50, a merchant refund costs 2% and a chargeback costs $50. Odix Pay also warns that the final FX amount can vary with the local bank's rate.

Card prices are one-off: $19.99 for Purple, $69.99 for White or Black, $2,000 for Rose Metal and $15,000 for Gold, which comes gold plated or in 37 grams of solid gold. Physical cards include a virtual card, and delivery can take up to 30 business days.

Odix Pay Card ATM withdrawal fees

Odix Pay Card charges 5% on ATM withdrawals with the Purple and Rose Metal cards, so a $200 withdrawal costs $10 before the ATM owner's fee.

The White and Black cards are issued on two card ranges with different ATM charges, and the Odix Pay app shows the exact fee on screen before you confirm a withdrawal. The FX fee applies on top when you withdraw a foreign currency, and ATM limits depend on the country and the machine. For regular cash, a card with a free monthly allowance will cost much less.

Is Odix Pay Card safe?

Odix Pay Card is custodial: your stablecoins sit in an Odix Pay account and the company controls the balance until you spend it.

Odix Pay lists two companies on its site. Odix Technology CAN Ltd is registered with FINTRAC, Canada's financial intelligence unit, as a money services business, and Odix Technology AUS Pty Ltd is its Australian company, based in New South Wales. Odix Pay describes itself as a registered virtual asset service provider.

Every account must pass identity checks with an ID document and a selfie, and Odix Pay screens transactions against OFAC, UN, EU and UK sanctions lists. Suspicious activity can lead to frozen funds or a suspended account. Odix Pay doesn't name the bank that issues its cards, so keep the balance to what you plan to spend.

Who should get Odix Pay Card

Odix Pay Card suits people in its 20 countries who hold stablecoins and want a physical Visa card that pays some cashback.

The White or Black card is the sensible choice for most people. At $69.99, the card pays for itself after about seven months at $1,000 of monthly spending, once the 1% transaction fee is taken off the 2% cashback.

If you mostly pay abroad, the 1.2% FX fee and 1% transaction fee add up to 2.2% per payment, which wipes out the cashback. The virtual Purple card has no rewards and charges 1.5% on every payment, so it costs more than most free cards. The comparison below shows the alternatives in your country.
