Watch out

  • No cashback on crypto card payments on any plan
  • Standard plan pays 1% on exchanges above £1,000 a month
  • Weekend conversions cost 1% on Standard and 0.5% on Plus
  • Only offered in the UK and the European Economic Area

Revolut Crypto Card is a Revolut debit card linked to your crypto balance instead of your cash account, so you can pay in shops with any of more than 300 tokens. The virtual card is free, Revolut charges no exchange fee on crypto card payments, and there is no cashback on any plan.

What you actually pay depends on your Revolut plan. Every crypto card payment is an exchange from crypto into the shop's currency, and exchanges count toward the fair usage limit that comes with each plan, so a Standard customer and a Metal customer pay different amounts for the same purchase. Pick your country at the top of the page to see the UK or European version.

Revolut Crypto Card cashback

Revolut Crypto Card pays no cashback on crypto card payments, on the free Standard plan or on any of the paid plans.

Revolut says this plainly in its help centre, so the card is a way to spend crypto you already own, not a way to earn more. If cashback in crypto is what you want, most of the cards in the comparison further down pay something on every payment, from a fraction of a percent up to several percent.

The paid plans still matter for this card, because they raise the amount you can convert each month without a fair usage fee and they increase the free ATM allowance. The table below lists each plan with its price and fees.

Revolut Crypto Card fees

Revolut Crypto Card has no exchange fee on payments, but each payment counts as a crypto exchange, so your plan's fair usage limit and weekend markup apply.

On the free Standard plan you can exchange up to £1,000 or €1,000 a month on weekdays without extra cost, and anything above that pays a 1% fair usage fee. Plus raises the limit to £3,000 or €3,000 and charges 0.5% above it. Premium, Metal and Ultra have no fair usage limit, and the limit is shared with currency and commodity exchanges, so a trip abroad paid from your cash balance uses up the same allowance.

Weekends cost more on the cheaper plans. Between 17:00 on Friday and 18:00 on Sunday, Eastern Time, Standard customers pay 1% on every exchange and Plus customers pay 0.5%, so a £200 crypto card payment on a Saturday costs £2 on Standard.

In the UK, Plus costs £3.99 a month, Premium £7.99, Metal £14.99 and Ultra £55. Plan prices in the European Economic Area differ from country to country and are shown in the app. The virtual crypto card is free, and the physical card carries a delivery fee that Revolut shows before you order.

Revolut Crypto Card ATM withdrawal fees

Revolut Crypto Card lets you withdraw cash free up to your plan's monthly allowance, and Revolut charges 2% on withdrawals above it.

The allowance is £200 or five withdrawals a month on Standard, £200 on Plus, £400 on Premium, £800 on Metal and £2,000 on Ultra, with the same amounts in euros in Europe. In the UK the 2% fee has a £1 minimum, so a £100 withdrawal over the allowance costs £2. The cash comes from your crypto balance, so it also counts toward your fair usage limit, and the ATM owner can add its own charge.

You can take out up to £3,000, or the same in your currency, every 24 hours with the physical crypto card.

Is Revolut Crypto Card safe?

Revolut Crypto Card is custodial, because the crypto you spend is held by Revolut in your account and you don't control the keys.

In the UK, Revolut is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority for crypto services under the money laundering regulations. Revolut also states that money it receives for crypto transactions isn't safeguarded under the UK's e-money rules and isn't covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, so crypto in the app doesn't have the protection your pound balance has.

Any single Revolut Crypto Card payment over £100,000, or the same amount in your currency, is declined. Paying with crypto counts as selling it, so each payment can create a tax event in many countries.

Who should get Revolut Crypto Card

Revolut Crypto Card suits Revolut customers in the UK and Europe who already hold crypto in the app and want to spend it now and then without selling to cash first.

On Premium, Metal or Ultra there is no fair usage limit, so crypto card payments carry no exchange fee at any amount, which makes this one of the cheapest ways to spend crypto in Europe if you already pay for one of those plans. On Standard, keeping crypto spending under £1,000 or €1,000 a month and away from weekends keeps the cost at zero.

The missing cashback is the main reason to look elsewhere. If you would put £1,000 a month through a card, a card paying 1% returns £10 that Revolut Crypto Card doesn't, and the comparison below shows those alternatives in your country.
