Tangem Pay Review: Fees, Cashback and Self-Custody

By

Tangem Pay — Basic

Basic

Tangem Pay suits people in the US and about 40 other countries who want to spend stablecoins from an account they control, with no fee on the Basic plan. The advertised 1% to 4% cashback is still marked coming soon, and there's no physical card yet.

Good

  • Basic plan is free, with no fee on dollar payments
  • Self-custody account that Tangem calls non-custodial
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay on the virtual card
  • Plus plan is free with $4,500 of monthly spending

Watch out

  • Cashback program is still marked coming soon
  • 1.5% FX fee on payments in other currencies
  • 4% ATM fee on Basic, contactless ATMs only
  • No physical card yet, virtual only

Tangem Pay is a virtual Visa card that spends USDC or USDT from a self-custody account. The Basic plan is free, dollar payments carry no fee, and payments in other currencies cost 1.5%. Tangem advertises 1% to 4% cashback in USDC, but its rewards program is still marked coming soon.

Payments settle in US dollars, and you can add the card to Apple Pay or Google Pay. There's no physical card yet, though Tangem's tariffs already list plastic card delivery at $14.53 to $82.10 and an early physical edition is marked coming soon.

Tangem Pay cashback

Tangem Pay advertises 1% cashback on its free Basic plan, 2% on Plus and 4% on Prestige, but the rewards program is still marked coming soon, so the card doesn't pay cashback yet.

Tangem says the cashback will be paid in USDC, and an August 2026 Tangem blog post says it arrives in a later app release. Until it's live, judge Tangem Pay on its fees.

If the rates arrive as listed, each tier has a monthly cap: Basic pays 1% on up to $10,000 of spending, so $100 a month at most. Plus pays 2% on up to $15,000, or $300 a month, and Prestige pays 4% on up to $25,000, or $1,000 a month.

Plus costs $29.99 a month, which is $359.88 a year. It's free if you spend $4,500 a month or keep $65,000 in Tangem's Yield Mode. Paying for Plus only beats Basic once you spend about $3,000 a month, because the extra 1% needs $3,000 to cover $29.99. Prestige costs $999 a year and is waitlist only.

Tangem Pay fees

Tangem Pay charges no fee on dollar payments and 1.5% above Visa's exchange rate on payments in any other currency, according to Tangem's tariffs dated September 25, 2026.

The card settles in US dollars, so a purchase at home in the US costs nothing extra. For anyone outside the US, most local payments are foreign-currency payments, and the 1.5% applies to nearly everything.

Topping up is cheap, since you can deposit USDC or USDT on Polygon, Base, BNB Chain or Arbitrum, swap other stablecoins in the app, or in the US send dollars by ACH for $1 or Fedwire for $11. Tangem's tariffs list no transaction fee on top.

Tangem Pay ATM withdrawal fees

Tangem Pay charges 4% per ATM withdrawal on Basic and 2% on Plus, and only works at contactless ATMs.

Each withdrawal is capped at $250, with three withdrawals per 24 hours. On Basic, a $200 withdrawal costs $8 in Tangem fees, before anything the ATM owner charges.

Because there's no physical card, you need an ATM that accepts a phone tap. For regular cash needs, a card with a lower ATM fee will cost less.

Is Tangem Pay safe?

Tangem Pay is self-custody: Tangem describes it as a non-custodial payment account whose balance sits in a smart contract you control.

The card program is run by Paera LLC, which also handles identity checks. Tangem Pay spends only what's in that account, with no credit line.

Identity checks still apply, so self-custody here means control of the funds, not an anonymous card.

Who should get Tangem Pay

Tangem Pay suits US residents in the 30 supported states who want to spend USDC or USDT from an account they control, with no fee on dollar payments.

At home in the US, Basic is one of the cheapest ways to spend stablecoins: no plan fee, no conversion fee, no FX. If the advertised 1% arrives, $1,000 a month of spending would earn $10.

Outside the US, the 1.5% FX fee applies to almost every local payment, which wipes out a 1% cashback rate. In that case the card mainly makes sense if self-custody matters more to you than cost. The comparison below shows the alternatives in your country.
