Phemex Card Review: Fees, Cashback and Stablecoin Spending

By

Phemex Card — Standard

Phemex Card suits Phemex VIPs in Europe who want a free virtual card that spends USDT or USDC and returns 1% in USDT with no monthly cap. Everyone else earns 0.25%, and the card is virtual only, so it is no help when you need cash.

Good

  • No issuance, annual or closure fee
  • 1% USDT cashback with no monthly cap for Phemex VIPs
  • Spends USDT and USDC directly from the Phemex Spot account
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay on the virtual Mastercard

Watch out

  • Standard accounts earn only 0.25% cashback
  • Virtual card only, with no physical card for ATMs
  • Card is in US dollars, so euro payments go through a conversion
  • Only open to residents of the European Economic Area

Phemex Card is a free virtual Mastercard from the Phemex exchange that spends USDT and USDC straight from your Phemex Spot account. There is no issuance, annual or closure fee, and it pays 0.25% cashback in USDT, or 1% if you hold Phemex VIP status, with no monthly cap at either rate.

The card is only open to residents of the European Economic Area, and it is denominated in US dollars even though most of its cardholders spend in euros. That shapes the cost of everyday payments, because each one involves a conversion from stablecoins into the currency the shop charges in. Every amount on this page is in US dollars.

Phemex Card cashback

Phemex Card pays 0.25% cashback in USDT on eligible purchases for standard users and 1% for Phemex VIPs, with no monthly cap on either rate.

The rate depends only on your Phemex user tier, not on how much you spend with the card. VIP status comes from your asset balance or trading volume on the exchange, so the 1% is mainly a perk for people who already trade a lot on Phemex. For a standard user, $1,000 of monthly spending returns $2.50, while a VIP spending the same amount gets $10 back.

The missing cap matters more for VIPs than for anyone else. The card's default limit is $30,000 a month, so a VIP who used all of it would earn $300 in USDT, which is more than most capped crypto cards allow at the same rate.

Cashback is credited to your Spot account on the 10th of the following month, and it isn't paid while the card is frozen. Purchases at financial, crypto, gambling, government, education and insurance merchants earn nothing, and refunds take back the matching share of the cashback.

Phemex Card fees

Phemex Card has no issuance fee, no annual fee and no closure fee, but Phemex adds a conversion spread when it sells your USDT or USDC to pay for a purchase.

Phemex describes this as a dynamic crypto-to-fiat spread that includes its processing costs, and its fee page gives no percentage for it. Because the card settles in US dollars, a payment in euros or any other currency also goes through Mastercard's exchange rate, and Phemex says it can add a further spread to cover cross-border processing.

For a card aimed at Europe, that means almost every payment carries two conversions, first from stablecoin to dollars and then from dollars to euros. The cleanest way to judge the cost is to compare the amount taken from your Spot account with the price you paid at the till.

None of the fees are refunded when a merchant returns your money. The default limits are $5,000 per payment, $5,000 a day, $30,000 a month and $100,000 a year, and you can lower them on the card page in the app.

Phemex Card ATM withdrawal fees

Phemex Card is a virtual card only, so it can't be used to take cash out of an ATM in Europe or anywhere else.

The card is issued instantly in the app once your application is approved, and each account can hold one virtual card. That suits online shopping and paying by phone through Apple Pay or Google Pay, but it leaves you without a way to draw cash. If you need cash on a trip, you will need a second card with a physical version.

Cash withdrawals aren't supported.

Is Phemex Card safe?

Phemex Card is custodial, because the USDT and USDC you spend sit in your Phemex Spot account and Phemex holds them for you.

The card programme is managed by Immersve Limited, a New Zealand company registered as a financial service provider (FSP1003031), and the card is issued under a Mastercard licence. Phemex runs the exchange account behind it and decides who qualifies for VIP cashback.

On January 23, 2025, Phemex detected unusual activity in its hot wallet and paused deposits and withdrawals while it investigated. It published a proof of reserves, covered user losses from company reserves and had restored all withdrawal services by February 2025. The episode is a good reason to keep only your spending money on the exchange.

Who should get Phemex Card

Phemex Card suits Phemex VIPs living in the European Economic Area who already hold USDT or USDC on the exchange and want an easy way to spend it.

For that group, 1% back with no monthly cap and no card fees is a fair return, especially for people who put a large share of their spending on one card. The conversion spread will eat part of that 1%, though, so it is worth checking a few statements before moving all of your spending onto it.

For a standard user, 0.25% cashback is small, the card is virtual only, and payments in euros pass through a dollar conversion. Several free European cards pay more and charge less on euro payments, and the comparison below shows the alternatives in your country.
