THORWallet Card is a dollar Mastercard that you top up with USDC from the THORWallet self-custody app. The Basic virtual card is free with an invite code or $5 without one, top-ups are free, and only the $124 Premium tier pays cashback, at 0.5% in USDC.
THORWallet is a Swiss wallet app for swapping and holding crypto, and the card adds a way to spend from it. You keep your coins in the wallet, move USDC onto the card when you want to spend, and pay anywhere Mastercard is accepted, with a physical card included on Premium.
THORWallet Card cashback
THORWallet Card pays 0.5% cashback in USDC on the Premium tier and nothing on the free Basic tier.
Premium cashback is capped by monthly spending. In the first 12 months it covers up to $5,000 of card spending, worth at most $25 a month. From month 13 the cap drops to $2,000, which limits the reward to $10 a month, unless you stake THORWallet's TITN token to keep the higher cap.
That makes the membership slow to pay for itself. At the full price of $124, someone spending $5,000 a month earns it back in about five months during the first year, while someone spending $1,000 a month earns $5 a month and needs about two years. Cash withdrawals, money transfers, gambling, crypto purchases and gift cards don't earn cashback.
THORWallet Card fees
THORWallet Card charges nothing to top up with USDC and adds a 1.5% markup on foreign-currency payments, on both Basic and Premium.
The free top-up only covers USDC. If your balance is in another token, you swap it to USDC in the app first, and THORWallet's own swap fee is 1.25% on Basic and 0.5% on Premium during its first 12 months. Holding USDC before you top up avoids that cost.
The FX markup is the fee most cardholders will notice. A $100 purchase in euros costs $1.50 extra, which is higher than the best travel cards but in line with many crypto cards.
The tier prices are one-off payments in USDC. Basic is free with an invite code or $5 without one, and Premium is $124, or $99 with an invite code, including the physical card and its delivery. Neither tier has a monthly or annual fee, and Premium raises the monthly spending limit from $100,000 to $1,000,000.
THORWallet Card ATM withdrawal fees
THORWallet Card charges a flat $1 per withdrawal at a domestic ATM and $5 at an international one, on both tiers.
A flat fee favours larger withdrawals. Taking out $200 at home costs $1 in THORWallet fees, or 0.5%, and $200 abroad costs $5, or 2.5%, plus the 1.5% FX markup when the cash is in another currency. The ATM owner may add a charge of their own.
The Basic tier only has a virtual card, so cash withdrawals in practice need the Premium physical card. Limits are $2,500 per withdrawal and $10,000 a day, with $20,000 a month on Basic and $60,000 on Premium.
Is THORWallet Card safe?
THORWallet Card is custodial once you top it up: the THORWallet app is a non-custodial wallet, but USDC you move onto the card sits with the card provider until you spend it.
THORWallet doesn't issue the card itself. The card runs on the Unblock programme operated by Atomo Sarl with regulated card-issuing partners, while the memberships are sold by EMM Ventures AG of Zug, Switzerland, and every cardholder goes through identity verification before the card is issued.
Because the wallet and the card are separate, you can keep most of your crypto under your own keys and top up only what you plan to spend. The membership fee is non-refundable, so buy Premium only if the cashback or the physical card is worth $124 to you.
Who should get THORWallet Card
THORWallet Card suits people who already hold USDC in THORWallet and want a free virtual Mastercard with no top-up fee and cheap domestic ATM withdrawals.
The Basic tier is the obvious place to start, since it costs nothing with an invite code and charges no fee on USDC top-ups. Premium makes sense for people who want a physical card or spend close to $5,000 a month in the first year, when the 0.5% cashback returns up to $300 a year.
For people who mostly pay abroad or want higher rewards, the 1.5% FX markup and the 0.5% rate fall behind the stronger crypto cards. The comparison below shows alternatives in your country.
Where THORWallet Card is available
THORWallet Card is available in more than 175 countries according to THORWallet, including the United States, the United Kingdom and most of Europe.
THORWallet's country checker lists some countries as not served, including Bulgaria, Monaco, Russia, China, India, Nigeria, Kenya and Vietnam, and says availability can depend on verification. UK residents can get the Basic virtual card, but the paid Premium membership isn't sold in the United Kingdom.
