XPlace Card Review: Fees, Cashback and Credit Mode

By

XPlace Card — Basic

Basic

XPlace Card suits crypto holders who want to spend against BTC, ETH or SOL without selling it and without handing their coins to an exchange. Cashback is paid only in Credit Mode and is capped every month, so the free plan returns at most $10 a month.

Good

  • Self-custody, with collateral held in Kamino smart contracts
  • Borrow USDC against crypto at up to 80% of USDT's value
  • USDC cashback from 0.5% free to 2% on Platinum
  • FX fee falls from 1% on Basic to 0% on Platinum

Watch out

  • Cash Mode spending earns no cashback at all
  • Monthly cashback caps from $10 on Basic to $250 on Platinum
  • Credit Mode carries liquidation risk if collateral prices fall
  • Not offered in India, Turkey, Ukraine, Vietnam or 19 US states

XPlace Card is a Visa card on Solana that lets you spend by borrowing USDC against your crypto, or by spending a USDC balance directly. The Basic plan is free and pays 0.5% cashback in USDC on Credit Mode purchases, and paid plans from $99 to $999 a year raise that to 2%.

The idea is to spend without selling. You deposit SOL, BTC, ETH, USDT or JitoSOL, the coins earn yield in Kamino Finance's lending protocol, and the card draws a USDC loan against them when you tap. You keep the coins and their upside, and you can repay the loan whenever you like, but you also take on the risk that comes with any crypto-backed loan.

XPlace Card cashback

XPlace Card pays cashback in USDC only on purchases made in Credit Mode, from 0.5% on the free Basic plan to 2% on Platinum.

Every plan caps cashback at a fixed dollar amount each month. Basic stops at $10, which means 0.5% only applies to the first $2,000 of Credit Mode spending. Silver pays 1% up to $40 a month, Gold pays 1.5% up to $100, and Platinum pays 2% up to $250, or about $12,500 of monthly spending.

The paid plans earn their fee back only with steady use. Silver's $99 a year needs about $1,650 of Credit Mode spending a month before the extra 0.5% covers it, while Platinum at its cap returns $3,000 a year against a $999 fee.

Purchases in Cash Mode earn nothing, and neither do ATM withdrawals, transfers, crypto purchases, gambling, telecoms, electronics stores or app and digital goods purchases. Cashback lands in the app after the merchant settles and can be claimed to your wallet in one step.

XPlace Card fees

XPlace Card charges no fee per card payment, and its foreign exchange fee depends on your plan: 1% on Basic, 0.5% on Silver, 0.25% on Gold and 0% on Platinum.

On a $1,000 trip abroad, Basic adds $10 in FX fees and Silver adds $5. The yearly plan fees of $99, $249 and $999 are charged in USDC, renew automatically, and aren't refunded if you cancel early.

Credit Mode has its own cost in the form of interest. The borrow rate is variable, comes from Kamino Finance's on-chain market, and is shown in the app before you borrow, so check it before relying on Credit Mode for large purchases. How much you can borrow depends on the coin: up to 80% of the value of USDT, 70% for BTC and ETH, 65% for SOL and 50% for JitoSOL.

Swapping between tokens inside XPlace costs 1% on Basic, falling to 0.5% on Platinum. The physical card is live for Silver members and takes 7 to 14 business days to arrive, while Gold and Platinum physical cards are still to come.

XPlace Card ATM withdrawal fees

XPlace Card has no published ATM fee schedule, and its card terms say cash advances aren't available.

ATM withdrawals are also excluded from cashback. If cash matters to you, keep a separate card with a published withdrawal allowance.

Is XPlace Card safe?

XPlace Card is self-custodial: your deposits sit in Kamino Finance smart contracts on Solana, and XPlace has no ability to move, freeze or seize them.

XPlace is run by Pontech Group L.L.C-FZ, registered in the Meydan Free Zone in Dubai. The Visa card is issued by Third National under a programme managed by Signify Holdings, and the lending itself is done by the Kamino protocol, so XPlace is not your lender. XPlace says its smart contracts are audited by FYEO.

The real risk is the loan. If the price of your collateral falls sharply, part of it can be sold automatically to protect the position. The app shows a health factor and sends alerts as it drops, and you can repay or add collateral at any time to stay clear of liquidation.

XPlace's terms cap its liability at the lower of $100 or the fees you paid in the past 12 months. Disputes go to arbitration in Dubai.

Who should get XPlace Card

XPlace Card suits long-term holders of BTC, ETH or SOL who want to spend against their coins without selling them and without handing them to an exchange.

For a holder who would otherwise sell crypto to pay bills, borrowing USDC keeps the position intact. Platinum also brings unlimited airport lounge visits and a concierge service, which matters only if you travel often.

For people who just want cashback on everyday spending, the monthly caps keep the rewards small, especially on the free plan. The comparison below shows cards with higher uncapped rates in your country.
